Small Garden IdeasA small home garden is always nice to look at, but it’s never without its cons. The greatest challenge, perhaps, that a gardener would have is finding an appropriate landscape design that will showcase the beauty of the garden.

This is often a problem when you live in the city and there’s not much floor space to accommodate a backyard garden. Nonetheless, you could still have your own garden, even with such small space, by looking into some landscaping small garden ideas. When working with small gardens, it’s important to make use of every little space that you have in your backyard. To avoid overwhelming yourself with choices, stick with the essentials and move your way toward making cohesion.

Obviously, you cannot place all the plants of your liking in your garden designs. So it is important to choose only a few varieties and stick with cool colors of plants to make your garden appear larger. It’s also wise to make use of raised beds to give all your plants equal exposure to sunlight. But if you plan to put all your plants in your garden soil, don’t forget to create a focal point for all your plants. Normally, when we think of focal points, we imagine bulky plants that take up most space in your garden. However, you can scale down your focal point according to the size of your home garden.

Choose plants that are unusual or have a vibrant color. Orange-leaf canna and Japanese maple looks perfect and fit in well with your small garden landscaping design. Alternatively, you can put a dwarf shrub or an ornament (statue, bird bath or boulders) to achieve that focal point. You may feel restricted in terms of your garden selection, but you’ll find it easier to maintain your garden with the limited collection of plants that you have. Landscaping a small home garden is actually much easier, and it gives you instant satisfaction once all your plants are happily basking under the sun.

About

Im a huge fan of small garden design. Growing up in a little country town on the outskirts of Sydney, I learned a lot about how plants grow and how environments work together. After moving to the City I was intrigued at how you can get even the smallest space to turn into a garden if done right.
